Following the Electoral Assembly of the Portuguese Association of Geologists (APG), which took place on 26 June, the current member of the board of directors of the Cluster of Mineral Resources of Portugal, Luís Lopes, was elected President of APG for the 2020-2022 biennium .
The professor at the University of Évora was also included in the list A that won the elections and whose plan of activities is based on two main objectives:
Create an even more professional APG structure and prepare for the creation of the “Order of Geologists”;
Increase the public visibility of the geologist profession and its specific skills to solve the challenges that Portuguese society faces.
At a time when he assumed his mandate and faced with regulatory proposals for the development and exploration of mineral resources, Luís Lopes gave an interview to Público on 11 August in which he presented his point of view on the topic.
